Strategic Plan

In the Strategic Plan of the Department of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering (MME) and its three majors in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Engineering Management with Manufacturing Engineering Technical Specialty, we are demonstrating the assessment process that we under take, in performing our mission, to improve the quality of education of our undergraduate engineering students in the three majors. Assessment of how well our mission is being accomplished provides us with a stimulus for continuous quality improvement. Thus the underlying purpose of assessment in our strategic plan is improvement. To achieve that, we are using multiple measures to assess student outcomes and facilitate continuous improvement. Student outcomes are achievements made by students as a result of the educational process. Student outcomes should represent value added to the student and this value added should increase continuously over time throughout the academic program.

Our strategic plan includes the systematic approach for assessment, program-educational goals and objectives, the process of determining goals and objectives, constituencies’ feedback, the three majors curricula, department mission, and program outcomes. Also, methods to assess outcomes, and means to demonstrate evidence that the results are being documented, implemented, and used for the improvement of the program. Our strategic plan satisfies ABET Engineering Criteria 2000 in evaluating our three engineering programs to achieve our mission. Also, the plan furthers the strategic missions and plans of Miami University and the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
